Residents turned out for a community-wide sanitation exercise this week, with the executive chairman joining them on the streets to clear drains, sweep refuse, and clean up a local market area.
The exercise, organised by the executive council, saw officials and residents working side by side with shovels and brooms to clear built-up waste and unblock drainage channels — work the council says is aimed at reducing flooding risk and improving public health across affected communities.
The chairman's hands-on participation was welcomed by residents present, many of whom said it set a strong example for civic responsibility and encouraged wider community buy-in for similar exercises going forward.
The executive council has indicated that sanitation exercises of this kind will be held periodically across different wards as part of its ongoing environmental and public health programme.
